In 2004 we purchased a twenty foot Norwest wood/canvas freighter canoe. This is a beautiful vessel that is equipped with an eight horse, four stroke, Johnson motor. The outboard motor is a very quiet and clean running engine that makes an early morning troll on a big water very enjoyable. The Norwest is an extremely stable craft that two fishermen can easily stand up and cast out of with no problem.
There is something about being in a true wood/canvas canoe that is warm and inviting. The romance of wood canoes is age old. We have decided that there will be no modern technology on this boat. If you are looking for charters that offer down riggers, fish finders, temperature monitors, etc., we will be glad to steer you toward other guide services. If instead you are looking for an early season traditional trolling adventure using traditional streamer patterns, then we can accommodate you.
Owl's Roost Outfitters fishes the Lakes Region of New Hampshire on large lakes like Winnipesaukee, Squam, and Dan Hole for landlock salmon and togue. We can also show you memorable rainbow trout fishing on these lakes as well as smaller lakes that produce 16" to 20" fish on a regular basis.
In the Moosehead Lakes Region of Maine the canoe is truly king, and we can give you many opportunities to catch large salmon and brook trout from this elegant craft. Traditionally we move to Maine after our early season fishing has slowed up in New Hampshire.
In 2005, we will be using the twenty footer to go after large and small mouth bass with fly rods. We have many lakes and ponds that facilitate this trip in the Granite State's Lakes Region, but we have some good small mouth fishing in Northern Maine as well.
In the fall of the year just being out on a small pond drinking in nature's beauty must be like heaven itself, but we will be fishing for rainbow and brook trout on some of New England's most picturesque waters. These fish are fat and sassy. They are displaying their spawning colors and there is no time of year more spectacular for the scenery or the fish. We fish well into October and early November for these fish.
So if you are looking for no gadget, no techie, traditional fly fishing from questionably one of the most elegant water craft you have ever been in, then come and join us in the twenty foot square stern canoe. These trips either go from "0" dark 30 to 10 o'clock in the morning or we can go out at 2 or 3 in the afternoon until dusk. We can accommodate two sports or you can come alone. Don't pass up this opportunity to turn the clock back a couple of decades and have an adventure reminiscent of a memorable trip you might have taken with your Dad or Granddad many years ago.
