Fly Tying

Master Fly Tier Rick Estes was exposed to world famous fly tiers, like Jim Warner and Lefty Harris, at a young age, and it helped fuel a passion for a craft he has been practicing for the past 40 years. His fly tying partner, Ellis Hatch, has been a Master Tier for 53 years and is a legendary figure in the fly fishing industry, tying 14,000 to 15,000 flies each year, Together, the men share their expertise in beginner workshops for those just undertaking the art and intermediate workshops for those with some experience but looking to improve their technique.

Not only will you enjoy the camaraderie of fellow anglers during class, but you will have the opportunity to tap decades worth of tying experience and learn about the history behind some of the flies you tie. This class promises short cuts to tying you cannot find anywhere else and guidance on material selection, revealing the secrets behind why certain materials are used for particular flies.

What we provide
Each class is held in Ossipee, N.H. at Owl’s Roost Outfitters and includes instruction, tying materials, handouts, coffee, doughnuts, and lunch. You need only bring your tying tools. If you are a beginner who does not have tools, arrangements can be made with advanced notice.

If you’d like to host a group clinic on a particular date at your own facility, we can often arrange to travel to your location.

Price: $100 per person for a full day of instruction. The class will be limited to 10 students, but a minimum enrollment is required for it to be held. Special offsite group pricing is also available.
